Common Future

The Polish-German seminar was organised with the co-operation of the Akademie Mitteleuropa (Bad Kissingen), Bremen University and the Bundesministerium des Innern (German Ministry of Internal Affairs), and tackled issues of contemporary Polish-German relations.

The seminar entitled “A Common Future: Germany – Poland” took place at the main building of the Akademie Mitteleuropa in Bad Kissingen. The seminar was devoted to contemporary Polish-German relations, problems needing solutions, interpretation of the future and opportunities for the development of Polish-German co-operation. 20 students attended from TEU, joined by two students from the partner Bremen University. Lecturers included Celina Kwiatek-Mach (Director of the Polish-German Centre of Documentation and Media), Dr Andrzej Kaluza (German-Polish Institute in Darmstadt), Dr Stefan Garsztecki (Bremen University) and Thomas Strobel (Georg-Eckhert-Institut).

One of the most successful lectures was given by Dr Garsztecki entitled “Re-nationalisation of Polish-German Relations”, and Thomas Strobel’s lecture on the Polish-German Textbook Commission. Students had the opportunity to analyse fragments of school history textbooks. The seminar achieved its aim of joining problem analyses with institutional analyses, and was valuable in that participating students were given a wide range of information and sources for their Bachelor theses.
