“Islamic Terrorism”

What is the phenomenon of current terrorism? What are the sources of its origins? How one can counteract it? What is the common feature of such terrorist organizations as EAT, IRA, Al-Kaida or Hamas?

The answers for these and many others questions were given by special guests of the "Islamic Terrorism" lecture, Tomasz Bąk, the general of the Polish Army brigade, and Maciej Milczanowski, a historian. Both are high-class practitioners who take part in peacekeeping missions, among others on the Golan Heights, in Kosovo, Bosnia and Hercegovina. The meeting, which took place on 16^th December 2010 at Tischner European University, was very popular among students and high-school pupils. More than 140 listeners had an opportunity to know more about this global phenomenon from the first hand. General Bąk analyzed the negative effects of terrorism all around the world: statistics concerning the amount of victims, development on unprecendented range of drug cultivation in Afghanistan, or the rise of many other terrorism centers, like Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan of Saudi Arabia.

"Western countries should be responsible for the consequences of these actions. It is the result of irresponsible international policy" general Bąk said. Milczanowski had similar opinion: "At the moment we face the escalation of a conflict between eastern and western civilization. What is more, western countries abandoned the aim of involving in the Middle East affairs. Nowadays, only one aim left - the military one.

After the lecture many questions were raised. Most of them concerned the issue of security during the EURO 2012, human rights, and what Islam can give the West. We hope to have the opportunity to organize such interesting meetings more often.
