Students at TEU attend a General English course up to B2 (FCE) level. This course focuses on providing the students with a basic level of language competence, a firm grounding in learner training and is particularly focused on improving students’ spoken English. Students are graded by continual assessment (receiving a grade for every lesson) and an end of semester test based on the material covered. In the second year, at levels B2/2 and above (Advanced 1 plus), students follow an Academic English program featuring specialized vocabulary and enhanced essay writing. The course prepares students to study in English. The course also features continuous assessment and uses the IELTS test as a standard.Learners on the Academic English course use the coursebook produced and published by TEU in association with MEN - The Polish Education Ministry – especially for their needs. Learner progress is measured by their score on IELTS, relative to their level at the start of the course. Each syllabus is negotiated e.g. students have the opportunity to change aspects which they deem unnecessary and cyclical e.g. topics and language areas are regularly revised and revisited to ensure maximum comprehension
