Where Europe ends: Perspectives of Turkish Acceptance to the EU
Krakow; 11th December 2004 (as part of the ‘Power in Europe’ research project) The conference was of a political nature, during which the political and cultural aspects of Turkish accession to the EU were addressed.
The Borders of European Integration
Krakow; 22nd-23rd April 2005 (as part of the ‘Power in Europe’ research project) This was an academic interdisciplinary international conference which was geared towards a deeper understanding of borders in the process of European integration, and also the preparation of a publication on the conference’s theme.
Beyond the Borders. Ukraine and European Neighbourhood Policy
Kraków – Rzeszów; 7th-9th June 2006 The conference was set up in order to act as an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas by academics from EU countries and the Ukraine. The main themes discussed were the political-economic transformations that are geared towards democracy and free market practices, and relations between the Ukraine and the European Union with regard to European neighbourhood policy.
Cuba – Experiencing Totalitarianism. Damas de Blanco in the Defence of Freedom
Krakow; 7th June 2006 The conference was based around the phenomenon of the Cuban Damas de Blanco, and the analysis of similar peace movements around the world.
The Future of European Energy Security
Krakow; 23rd June 2006 (as part of the ‘Power in Europe’ research project) The aim of the international interdisciplinary conference was to exchange views and experiences of the situation of energy security in Europe.
Immigrants – Us and Them?
Kraków; 7th-8th November 2006 The conference tackled problems such as immigration and the auspices under which it happens. The aim of the conference was not only to allay public fears concerning immigrants, but also to present immigration policy and migration in the Polish context. Other key issues were the building of open and tolerant foundations upon which a dialogue on multiculturalism could be held, especially by the young. The project was split into two interlocking parts: student workshops and an international conference.
Atheism and Secularisation – The Place of Religion in the Citizens’ Europe
Austria; 16th-18th November 2006 The conference was organised by the European Academy of Social Research, Integration and Civil Society (EALIZ). Students from TEU were invited thanks to the co-operation of EALIZ and the Institute for the Study of Civilisations - Krakow Branch.
The Other – Friend or Enemy?
The project was organised jointly by TEU and the Université de Marne-la-Vallée while main patron of the conference was the French Consulate. The media patrons were Polish public television TVP and Dziennik Polski newspaper. The conference was to reflect upon ‘otherness’ in philosophical, social, and political perspectives, as well as deliberating on models of breaking through such an ‘otherness’ resulting in the creation of a multidimensional identity.
