Studying in Krakow

Krakow is the former political capital of Poland but undoubtedly the present capital of Polish culture and a student paradise with over 180,000 young people studying at nearly 20 higher education institutions.

Characterised by its friendly atmosphere and wide range of artistic events, it is one of the three most often visited cities in Europe. Krakow is a city of stories and music, the hourly repeated trumpet solo of the “Hejnał” from the tower of St. Mary’s Church mingles with the hustle and bustle of the 20th century and the heart rending Jewish fiddles in the summer festivals.

The city, boasting Austrian, Czech, Hungarian, Jewish, French and Turkish influences, was a Central European cultural melting pot whose charm lingers to this day. Presently it is a meeting place for artists and thinkers who remain under the magical spell of its delightful backstreets and labyrinth-like alleys.

Krakow boasts an impressive number of wonderful old buildings. Each of these buildings has its own story, not infrequently stemming from the 13th century. Today the original cellars of these buildings are centres of a vibrant cultural and night life, illustrating Krakow’s unique ability to successfully blend modernity with its historical past.
