English Philology - Applied Linguistics (programme mostly in English)

Applied Linguistics is a challenging and stimulating discipline focusing on practical issues related to the use of language in social context and professional communication. This highly original programme combines the practical study of two or three foreign languages with intercultural communication skills, educating professional translators, interpreters and all those who will need language fluency at an expert level in their future career. Besides training in advanced English, the course provides an excellent grounding in a second foreign language (German, French, or Spanish).

The core programme is composed of five basic building-blocks:

How does language work - How did it evolve - How does it change over time
Introduction to Linguistics, History of English, Integrated Skills, and other courses.

How to communicate well in English
Speaking, Reading Comprehension, Listening, Writing, English Phonetics and Phonology, and other courses.

How to communicate in a second foreign language
The Use of German, The Use of French, The Use of Spanish.

What is British and American literature and culture
History of British and American Culture, A Survey of British and American Literature, Readings in British and American Literature, British and American Institutions, and other courses.

How is politics and society linked in the modern world
Introduction to International Relations, Introduction to European Integration

 

In addition to the core programme, from the third semester on, students are offered an opportunity to shape their curricula individually, selecting courses from one of the three specialisation profiles:

• Intercultural Business Communication
• Public Relations and Political Communication
• Translation Studies

Specializations will be open for the group of minimum 30 students.
